Problem:
Parents in Oak Park often did not understand their child’s Individual Education Plan (IEP), whether they were new to the process or had been involved for years. Even though they signed and approved the plans, many could not explain how their child’s school day was structured or what support their child was receiving.

Solution:
After months of reading IEPs and Article 7, parents still struggled to understand the plans. They shared resources with each other, but often received conflicting information. A review of stakeholder demonstrated the need for a simple, user-friendly way for parents to learn the key parts of an IEP together. In response, I designed and developed an ILT/VILT program that included a Presentation, Facilitator Guide, Participant Guide, and an IEP Quick Summary handout for each plan.
